OPIS:
Opisana w tej książce historia Katedry oparta jest na prezentacji przedstawionej na Konferencji zorganizowanej z okazji 50. rocznicy powołania do życia Zakładu Mikrobiologii Przemysłowej UŁ, przekształconego w 2001 roku w Katedrę Mikrobiologii Przemysłowej i Biotechnologii UŁ. W zasadniczej swej części narracja dotyczy działalności Katedry od momentu jej powołania 1 kwietnia 1974 roku do początku lat 20. XXI wieku. Jednocześnie w prezentacji przedstawiono lata poprzedzające formalne powołanie Katedry, jako samodzielnej jednostki naukowo-dydaktycznej UŁ, mające istotny wpływ na dalsze jej dzieje (stąd w tytule słowo „prehistoria”).
Najbardziej dynamiczny rozwój Katedry miał miejsce od połowy lat 90. XX wieku. Odzwierciedleniem tego jest liczba obronionych rozpraw doktorskich i uzyskanych przez pracowników Katedry stopni doktora habilitowanego. Miarą tego jest również zakres tematyczny skryptu wydanego dla studentów w 1997 roku Biotechnologia mikrobiologiczna. Ćwiczenia i pracownie specjalistyczne oraz podręcznika, który ukazał się na początku lat 20. XXI wieku (w języku polskim i angielskim) Biotechnologia drobnoustrojów w laboratorium i w praktyce. Teoria, ćwiczenia i pracownie specjalistyczne. Obecny stan Katedry, jako in statu nascendi, przedstawiono skrótowo w rozdziałach 9. i 10. (opracowanych przez prof. dr hab. Katarzynę Lisowską), pozostawiając następcom możliwość napisania ciągu dalszego przy kolejnej rocznicy.
W trakcie przygotowywania prezentacji wykorzystano dostępne źródła i materiały archiwalne starając się uwzględniać wszystkie najistotniejsze kwestie związane z historią tej jednostki, jednakże zawsze będzie to spojrzenie w dużym stopniu subiektywne najpierw studenta, potem pracownika zdobywającego kolejne stopnie i tytuły naukowe, a obecnie emerytowanego profesora seniora UŁ.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
The history of the Department described in this book is based on a presentation given at a conference held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Industrial Microbiology of the University of Łódź, transformed in 2001 into the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology of the University of Łódź. The central part of the narrative concerns the activities of the Department from its establishment on 1 April 1974 to the beginning of the 2020s. At the same time, the presentation included the years preceding the formal establishment of the Department as an independent scientific and teaching unit of the University of Łódź, which significantly impacted its further history (hence the word “prehistory” in the title).
The most dynamic development of the Department took place in the mid-1990s. This is reflected in the number of doctoral theses defended and post-doctoral degrees obtained by the Department’s employees. This is also measured by the thematic scope of the script for students published in 1997: Microbiological Biotechnology. Classes and Specialized Laboratories and the textbook published in the early 2020s (in Polish and English) Microbial Biotechnology in the Laboratory and Practice: theory, exercises, and specialized laboratories. The current status of the Department, as in statu nascendi, is briefly presented in chapter 9 and 10 (prepared by Prof. Dr hab. Katarzyna Lisowska), leaving the successors the opportunity to write a continuation on the next anniversary.
The presentation was prepared using available sources and archival materials, trying to take into account all the most important issues related to the history of the unit, however; it will always be the largely subjective view, of one who was first a student, then an employee obtaining subsequent degrees and academic titles, and now a retired senior professor of the University of Łódź.
